5 Places to Visit in Death Valley

While the name might sound intimidating Death Valley is one of the most spectacular places in California and you really should plan at least one trip to take in all its beauty.

You may have heard some amazing facts like this is the largest National Park outside of Alaska and that it’s also the hottest place on earth!

But did you know that this spectacular unique National Park has some of the most beautiful eye popping desert landscapes that you can only truly appreciate in person?

There are so many incredible sights here but we want to share a few of favorite memorable  spots to check out in Death Valley.  So keep this article handy so when you finally visit Death Valley you can make this trip one of a kind.

And be sure to do your research on the best times of year to go and what safety precautions to take.

 


1 – Badwater Basin

Badwater Basin

Description:

You wont believe your eyes when you see nature forming thin salt crust into hexagonal honeycomb shapes on the ground. It makes for a breathtaking beautiful sight and one of the most unique places in our state.

At 282 below sea level, Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America and the sea level sign in the parking lot reminds you how far down you are.

Go and enjoy the views, take some pictures, walk on the salty terrain and you can even make salt angels.

We highly recommend that you catch a sunset there, it truly makes for remarkable pics.

2 – Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

Mesquite Sand Dunes

Description:

Named for the mesquite tree which grows in the area, the mesquite flat sand dunes is a popular spot among visitors looking for a pic of what a real desert looks like.  The dunes are habitats of lots of animals including rattle snakes, so be sure to watch your step when you visit.

Death Valley is full of them but this area is extremely well known for beautiful sunrise and sunsets.  There is no hiking here after 10:00 AM in summer times.  Death Valley is also well known for its dark night skies, so you can plan to get there for sunset and stay for stargazing with this amazing deseret landscape as a backdrop.

4 – Zabriskie Point

Zabriskie Point

Description:

When taking in the breathtakingly unique and spectacular landscape that is Death Valley you want to see it from up high so you can take it in.

The place to go for epic views is Zabriskie Point where you can take in alot of beauty from up high.  It displays hard packed ridges on the ground with gold, orange and brown tones and makes for an excellent vantage point to take stunning pics or videos.

Zabriske Point is made up of composed of sediments from the dried up water of over 5 million years ago called Furnace Creek Lake, before Death Valley came into existence.

It is best to go early in the morning or late afternoon for even more spectacular views.  Don’t forget to wear appropriate shoes and bring water, you will enjoy the hike.

5 -Ubehebe Crater

Ubehebe Crater

Description:

You won’t forget the amazing terrain of Death Valley from its sand dunes, the salt flats, mountains, gorgeous views and the amazing tones of colors on the ground.  And if that wasn’t enough, this desert also has huge craters! Awesome right?

The Ubehebe crater is 600 feet deep and it resulted from a long ago volcanic explosion.  It’s a marvelous sight to behold and will take your breath away.   This is a treat for hiking lovers as the trails lead down into the crater.

Just remember that it’s a lot easier to go down, than it is to climb back up again.
