Hacking Our Favorite LA Hipster Coffee Shops

Like many of our fellow Angelenos, we are serious about our coffee ☕!

From beautiful aesthetics, good wifi, knowledgeable baristas and of course delicious coffee we set our standards high for what we expect in our coffee drinking experience.

And fortunately (in most cases) LA delivers!

Of course, hot spot areas like the Westside, Silverlake, and DTLA are jam-packed with quality hipster coffee shops but you should be able to at least find one in just about every area in Los Angeles if you look in the right place.

In this article, we are going to look at some of our favorite LA Hipster Coffee Shops.

1.  Madison & Park West Hollywood

Madison Park Coffee West Hollywood

Description:

What would life be without top-notch lattes? Thank goodness we don’t have to worry about that, at least the folks in West Hollywood don’t.

Madison and Park in West Hollywood have the delicious latte you need to take on any kind of a day.

Beautiful mid-century furniture with soothing, calming colors makes this comfortable shop feel like your living room was transported outside your house 🏠 (if you had lots of money and good taste in furniture)😄.

Its a gorgeous space with high ceilings and overall very elegant design.

It also offers very comfortable sitting areas in which you can get a good amount of work done!

They are known especially for their signature Rose latte drink that uses real petals.

In addition to your lattes, you can find delicious pastries and various assortment of other delicious caffeinated masterpieces.

One thing we especially love about Madison & Park is how its divided into 2 parts. In the front, there is a very comfortable living room like experience with comfy couches and coffee tables.

The back part has a long no-frills table with plenty of outlets perfect for those laptop warriors who want to just put their heads down and grind.

2.  Bar Nine, Culver City

Bar Nine Coffee Culver City

Description:

This ambitious coffee spot in Culver City gives you an experience like no other! A level of flavors and quality hard find anywhere else.

An excellent spot for serious coffee lovers they brew from one of the best beans in the world (from Panama either single or blend with Colombian).

The coffee is a bit pricey, but it’s because they are serving premium quality only to their customers.

And they also roast the coffee on site!

With so many options all of them top quality, you are sure to find at least one flavor that will make you fiend for more.

They also offer subscriptions so you can receive that flavor coffee you like most and make it at home.

Classes anyone?

Bar Nine has a variety of classes so you can learn how to make those pretty designs on your cup of latte and more.

If you’re looking for the best in quality coffee taste it’s hard to beat Bar Nine not only in this part of town but in all of Los Angeles.

You will for sure pay a premium for this experience but your coffee loving tastebuds will thank you.

So coffee lovers even if you don’t want to spend that extra $$ as a habit make sure to spoil yourself every once in a while with a trip to Bar Nine for the good stuff.

3.  Intelligentsia, SilverLake

Intelleigentsia Coffee Silverlake

Description:

Looking for a high-end coffee bar in a really cool spot?

Intelligentsia in Silverlake is an old skool player in the LA hipster coffee scene.

Fresh delicious artisan coffee and tea right on famous Sunset Blvd is so LA.

You can come as early as 6AM in the morning ⏰ to get your cup of goodness and jump-start your day the right way right here in the middle of the hipster capital of LA.

This coffee shop has rather an industrial atmosphere that makes it very casual.  The size and crowds make seating a challenge but they did add a few more tables and outdoor seating after their last remodel making for slightly more space.

Want the coffee without the crowd? You can order Intelligentsia coffee online and get free shipping with orders over $40.

Hack:

Intelligentsia has to make our list because its the OG of hipster coffee shops in the arguably the most hipster neighborhood in LA, Silverlake.

The coffee is tasty and the environment is cool but I wouldn’t rate it as a good spot to get work done.

It’s a better place to pick up your drink or just stay a few moments to people watch or chat.

Though they have wifi we wouldn’t rank it high as a place to work from because of its difficult parking, limited seating and it gets and stays crowded.

4.  Alfred Coffee, Melrose Place

Description:

Love Melrose Place?

Me too, especially this cute little coffee shop which has some of the most potent roasts, that are bold, tasty and awakening.  Partner your favorite cup with a flavorful pastry and you’re good to go!

The ambiance at Alfred’s in Melrose is as pleasant as its menu, plenty of Angelenos and visitors gather here not just for the good coffee but to see and be seen.

If LA had a coffee shop just for the rich 💰 and famous Alfreds On Melrose would have my vote!

Hack:

Hipster means aesthetics and Alfred has them in spades. You cannot go into Alfred Coffee and not leave without at least one pic for the Gram.

The Coffee, of course, is up to par but Alfred’s really steps up their game as a place to you have to let everyone know you have been there when you go.

With their beautiful signs, murals and overall vibe you really want to capture the moment and share with your friends.

5. Verve, DTLA

Verve Coffee DTLA

Description:

Located on Spring Street in DTLA, this place gives Downtown Angelenos exactly what they want.  This is not just a coffee shop, take a look of the menu for example and you’ll see delicious varieties of coffee like espressos and cafe au lait, and also tasty small lunch dishes.

If you prefer a cup of tea, you also won’t be disappointed with their selections.

Of course, to make this prestigious Hipster list you have to have style and Verve has plenty of that.

The space has tons of natural light and a front counter that is made of copper and it’s 35 foot long.

Lots of seating in the indoor area with tables and benches, and also a standing bar.  It also has a nice large patio seating area for those warm days you can watch the Downtown LA action go by.

Hack:

If you find yourself Downtown craving coffee on a warm day this is your spot.   The outdoor space at Verve is gorgeous, with foliage and comfortable seats and benches.

It’s like enjoying your cup of coffee while being in a small garden that just happens to be in the middle of the urban chaos that is Downtown LA.

6. The Assembly, West Hollywood

The Assembly Coffee West Hollywood

Description:

Tired of the bohemian looking cafe style?

You may want to enjoy a cup at the Assembly in West Hollywood.  This ultramodern coffee shop gets your style.

A minimalist, hipster gem tucked away among the expensive boutiques on Robertson.

Delight your palate with their specialty coffee and other drinks. Plus the donuts, you have to try those pretty donuts.  Those are even tastier than they look!

Hack:

When it comes to coffee shops that offer lots of space for laptop warriors this part of town can be lacking. That’s why the back area of The Assembly is such a welcome surprise.

With plenty of seating inside, a back patio, strong wifi, and clean bathrooms they have everything you need to get in your zone and get some work done while enjoying your drink.

7. The Boy & The Bear, Redondo Beach

The BoyandtheBear Coffee RedondoBeach

Description:

Inspired by fika a very Swedish tradition of a coffee break, Andres Pineros brings to us Angelenos this amazing coffee shop where we can savor a cup of good Colombian coffee, crafted with the intention of satisfying knowledgeable coffee palates.

This is a place to fika or to gather with your friends and enjoy delicious coffee.

Pineros envisioned bringing that high-quality Colombian coffee we can rarely see in the US, and seems like he’s done it!

His success continues with a recent opening of a new shop in Culver City.

So if you find yourself in the South Bay stop by for a good cup of well roasted (but not burnt) Colombian coffee.

350 N Pacific Coast Hwy, Redondo Beach, CA 90277

Hack:

The bad news is the parking can be tough at Boy & The Bear.

They have do not have their own lot and street parking is very limited.

But the good news?

You are blocks away from the beach!

So ride your bike on the beach and then up to this cute little shop to treat yourself with a delicious cup.
