Coolest Hotels to Hang Out in Downtown Los Angeles

We have so many beautiful hotels in Downtown Los Angeles. Some of them are historic and some of them are brand new and part of the result of a resurging DTLA in the last couple of years.

But why let only tourists enjoy all the amazing perks offered by our downtown hotels? One of my favorite hacks is hanging out in DTLA hotels, not as an overnight guest but a temporary one.

During the day you can sit and enjoy a coffee at one of the many of them offering free wi-fi.

Or at night you can visit for beautiful cocktails or a delicious dinner in an amazing upscale atmosphere.

If you are looking for a cool hotel to recommend to your friends visiting you in Los Angeles or if you are looking for a place to host your next event or just an amazing classy place to hang out for a few hours check out our list of coolest DTLA hotels.

1 – Wayfarer DTLA

Wayfarer DTLA

Description:

This hotel has been open for less than a year and already has made a great impression.  Comfortable, posh, brand new rooms are what you can expect as an overnight visitor.

As a guest, you can choose the accommodation style you need, king-size private suites or two bunk dorm-style rooms.

For cocktails, there is an awesome DTLA rooftop bar or you can stay inside by going down to the basement parlor.  Either bar you choose is going to have classy fun vibes.

If you want to eat you can go for breakfast or lunch at The Gaslighter Social Club where you will find tasty seasonal flavors. Here, you can build your own beer flight from the wall taps.

Or check out The Kitchen, a modern kitchen style restaurant that allows you to create exactly what you are craving.

Ok so, of course, DTLA hotels are known for their rooftop views and the Wayfarer is no exception. But be sure you don’t miss out on the Lilly Rose.

It’s their charming little venue located in the basement of the hotel.

2 – The Freehand

Free Hand DTLA

Description:

This is a beautiful hotel that has earned a historic preservation award.  The hotel has setup in the landmark  DTLA Commercial Exchange building and the new occupants put their talents and efforts into building a hotel that would keep that old fashion charm and remind people of the precious historic architecture of Downtown Los Angeles.

In addition to being a historic landmark, Freehand offers comfortable rooms including private suites and shared accommodations.  It’s conveniently located near a ton of other great downtown restaurants, bars, and markets.

For a warm summer day, there is nothing like enjoying the rooftop bar and also the pool.  Full-service restaurants, breakfast to go and happy hours are some of the great features you’ll find at this hotel.

The Freehand has an amazing rooftop bar and pool scene and we highly recommend visiting especially in the Summer. But don’t sleep on hanging out in the lobby. There you can grab a coffee, sit in a comfortable spot, and login into the free wifi!

3 – The Hotel Indigo

Hotel Indigo DTLA

Description:

This colorful hotel displays floral accents decor throughout its walls that recall La Fiesta de las Flores.  It has an amazing location directly across the street from all the dynamic action of LA Live and the Staples Center.

Some extra special features of this hotel are its comfortrooms, spa-style bathrooms, a cocktail lounge with spectacular city views, colorful decor, and of course as we mentioned that unbeatable location.

Like we described earlier it’s hard to beat the location of Hotel Indigo. If you want to grab dinner and drinks at LA Live or catch a game at Staples Center no need for Uber.

You simply walk across the street!

4 – The Nomad

Nomad Hotel DTLA

Description:

This is another hotel built in a historical spot,  where you will find gorgeous detalied ceilings and other artifacts of beautiful architectural works combined with modern contemporary designs.

You can come hang out at the Nomad and have a great time at their rooftop bar.  There sipping cocktails with panoramic views and possibly one of the most beautiful pool areas in all of LA with landscape designed by Jacques Garcia.

Great restaurant, bars, impressive designs, fun decor, a rooftop, beautiful rooms, king-sized beds, and European style bathrooms, makes The Nomad one of the most spectacular hotels not only in Downtown but in all of the city.

When you visit the public bathroom at the Nomad (downstairs from the lobby and restaurant) be sure to bring your phone. Why? Because the bathroom is amazing!

You actually step into a real live bank vault to get there and it makes for a great photo opportunity.

5 – The Hotel Figueroa

Hotel Fig DTLA

Description:

This beautiful historic hotel changed from its old Moroccan design for a new upscale contemporary look in 2017.   Before the reimagining, it was a gorgeous but slightly quircky hotel but now it has come to another level of class and beauty.

And with it being just right across from LA Live it is one of the best located hotels for people visiting DTLA and not interested in driving.

The rooms display a contemporary Spanish design, although one of the unique features is you may also find other inspirations within their style depending on what room you get.

The hotel has restaurant service and bars, but what it really calls this place for a fun experience is the oasis style pool and bar and having cocktails out on the patio and pool deck on warm Summer day.

Hope I don’t get in trouble for this one lol I’ve been in the Hotel Fig lobby quite a few times on a weekday morning to get a little work done on their free Wifi.

But an added bonus is they serve free coffee and pastries in the lobby as well. I’m not clear on if these free treats are just intended for guests but I’ve never seen a sign and no one has ever said anything to me so Ill usually grab a cup on the house.
