Our suggestions include Caldo Verde for its wonderful Portuguese inspired menu and elegant atmosphere. And Perch cannot be topped for its enchanting views and decadent menu.

Want even more striking venues with sensational brunch experiences?

For a really beautiful atmosphere for Mom make reservations at Redbird Downtown or the Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga. Also we recommend taking mom to enjoy high tea served on the Terrace of Eagles Crest Mansion overlooking the beautiful Oak Glen valley. You can purchase tickets at Los Rios Rancho website.  And if Mom loves the Aquarium of the Pacific, then remember their annual Mother’s Day Picnic event.

SPA time please! Many moms would love a day off and a trip to the spa.  So celebrate your one and only Madre with a trip to one of the many beautiful Spa venues in Los Angeles offering full menus of services.

Our first suggestion is Den Mother for its beautiful and relaxing atmosphere and their complete menu of “spoil me” services.  Take your mom for a massage, plus nails and hair care! Make a reservation at Milk+Honey Spa for you and your mom and have a lovely day of beauty and relaxation.

Lastly we recommend surprising your mom with an at home Hibachi party or a Luxury Picnic.

If one of your mom’s favorite activities is a day at the beach, with a gorgeous picnic setup, then we recommend a luxury picnic service.  There are several companies in Los Angeles that will make sure to make this day beautiful with splendorous and fun decor and picnic supplies +  delicious bites.  Our favorites are lapicnics.com, and santamonicapicnics.com

If mom loves at home celebrations its pretty hard to beat the fun and great food of Let’s Hibachi. With this at home party a professional Hibachi chef comes to you for a fun interactive meal where everyone is involved and having fun!

We love Let’s Hibachi so much that we have a special deal with them. When you reserve online you can use code: LAHacker20 in the Promo Code for 20% off your party! (discount can only be applied after you meet their party minimum)

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood opened almost exactly a year ago (February 17th 2023) and the fun wonderland straight out of our pixelated dreams has remained one of the most popular attractions.

But navigating those warp pipes, collecting virtual coins, and facing off against Bowser Jr. can be a little tricky.

That is why in this post, we bring you the best tips and tricks to level up your Super Nintendo World experience.  We recently made a visit and not only had a blast but hacked our way through the experience so we could share with you for your next visit. Enjoy everyone!

1 – Early Entry Pass

Super Nintendo World

Description:

Make sure you have a plant to beat the Koopa Troopas aka the crowds!  If you want to access Nintendo Land without spending your whole day standing in endless lines, be sure to get an early entry pass.

Explore Peach’s Castle, ride Bowser’s Challenge coaster, and collect Power Stars with minimal wait times by accessing the park one hour before it officially opens to everyone else. It’s like having the Mushroom Kingdom practically to yourself.

With shorter lines you can get on your favorite rides multiple times, and collect more coins with the mini games, all before the big crowd rushes in and the lines get crazy.

Early access tickets to the park also gives you a better chance to get reservations to the Toadstool Cafe (more on that below), and to enjoy shorter lines when meeting the characters.  I hope you are an early bird like me, because this hack is the best one for enjoying as much as possible.

We were able to access more attractions during the first hour then we were for the rest of the time we were there.

2 – Power Up Bands

Power Up bands

Description:

Nintendo World is an interactive experience, so ditch the spectator role and become an active participant! Collect digital coins throughout the land, tap your band on Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge to track your score, and complete Key Challenges to earn virtual keys.

It’s like stepping straight into your favorite Mario game.  Did I forget to mention the bands are super cool looking? Your young gamer will love to choose a Power Band with their favorite character Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad, or Yoshi.

Also the character band you choose is actually your team! When you get into Bowser’s castle your team character is the one in your Power Band.  You will want to keep your band because you can bring it with you the next time your at the park and will not have to buy another one.

Location: Universal Studios hollywood

3 – Reservations at Toadstool Cafe

Toadstool Cafe

Description:

Entrance to Toadstool Cafe can be tricky, so we highly recommend an early entrance pass to the park for your best chance at eating here. In our experience, arriving at Super Nintendo World before the park opens is the best way to snag a high demand spot at Toadstool cafe.

The trick is to scan the QR code posted at the entrance of the cafe as soon as you step into the land, that’s right before you even rush to ride Nintendo Kart.  This is because of limited capacity to the Cafe and all the other Koopa troopas who, like you, are hoping for a spot.

There’s no way to completely guarantee access or a reservation to Toadstool Cafe, and the time slots available are only for the same day.  So trust us when we say, get there early.  But for everyone else who absolutely can’t be at the park at 8:00 am, try making a reservation through the app while you are in the park.

Other options include purchasing VIP or express passes.  Is it worth all this trouble?  Well it kind of does match the theme of Nintendo Land, after all you have to conquer something to move on to the next level.

Once you make your way into the cafe, enjoy the vibrant recreation of the iconic Mushroom Kingdom.  You’ll be delighted with all the details, colorful murals, and interactive pipes and clouds.

Expect Mario theme dishes, with playful presentations.  You and your kids will love this one of a kind experience.

4 – Pro Gamer Pointers

Mario Kart Universal Studios

Description:

Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood is the ultimate playground for kids and grown ups who are  Mario fans.  The amazing recreation of the Mushroom Kingdom will make for awesome family pictures, and the land comes with a Mario Kart ride, a Bowser challenge experience, a beautiful castle with all the princess Peach decor, gift shop, and of course the ultimate dining experience at Toadstool Cafe.

Strategy is key to optimize your time and explore the entire land, so here are our pro gamer pointers that will help you dominate the game and unlock the land’s hidden secrets.

Early Bird Gets the Warp Pipe.   This is our first pointer, aim to arrive early, especially on weekends and holidays. This gives you a precious head start on exploring the land before the crowds descend.  Also scan the QR code for Toadstool cafe posted at the entrance, do this right when you arrive if you wish to dine at the cafe.  If you skip this step you may miss the chance to visit the cafe.

Get a map.  Also trust me on this, there are a number of interactive activities in this fantastic land and you don’t want to miss any of them.  Get familiar with the locations of the mini games, so you and your little gamers can conquer the challenges and collect the coins.  You and your team will need to do this to enter Bowser’s castle.

Experience Mario Kart.  Mario Kart is the only actual ride in Nintendo World Universal Studios Hollywood, so of course it is as popular as you can imagine.  Get there as soon as possible.  Otherwise you’ll be waiting in endless lines.

Meet Mario and Friends.  Our last pointer, keep an eye for characters meet and greet, follow your map and find the meet up points.  Also remember by getting there early you can be first in line to meet princess Peach, Mario, Luigi, or Toad.  You can also follow showtimes using the Universal Studios App.

Location: Universal Studios hollywood

5 – Virtual Line Experience

Virtual Line Universal Studios Hollywood

Description:

All visitors have the option to use Virtual Line, so if you  and your team are not early birds, you can use this virtual line option instead, to reduce wait times.  It will save you wait time for sure while you explore the rest of the park.

Virtual line experience is for land entrance only and it doesn’t hold you a spot at Mario Kart, or Bowser’s challenge.  It doesn’t guarantee a reservation to Toadstool cafe either.

To use virtual line experience you need to download the Universal Studios app first.  Once you are inside the park, open the app and check virtual line reservations for that day.  If you have Universal Express privileges, then you will enjoy reservation free entry to Super Nintendo World.

Hope you enjoyed this post, and use all these great pointers.  It will surely help you to maximize your Nintendo World experience.  Have fun visiting the vibrant Mushroom Kingdom!

Are you craving a weekend escape that blends outdoor adventure, cultural immersion, and luxurious comfort? Look no further than Conejo Valley.

One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is close access to visit other amazing Southern California towns. And Conejo Valley is a perfect example. Less than an hour from DTLA and nestled between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, this hidden gem offers a diverse array of experiences.  It makes for a perfect quick family road trip, or weekend getaway.

We recently worked with Visit Conejo Valley and they shared some of the best of their best suggestions for our trip to “See Another Side of Southern California”. After exploring ourselves here are five must-do activities that we are sharing from our recent trip to the Conejo Valley.

We were there for a full weekend getaway, so we included a recommendation from our delightful stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Thousand Oaks Agoura Hills.

1 –  Fantastic Accommodations

Courtyard By Marriot Thousand Oaks

Description:

Conejo Valley offers tremendous beauty, so it is not difficult to find a wonderful place to stay. But we were very pleased with our experience there and highly recommend Courtyard by Marriott Thousand Oaks Agoura Hills

This hotel is conveniently located near Conejo Valley’s top attractions. The hotel is beautiful, and it offers modern amenities and comfortable accommodation for a peaceful stay.

You can also expect friendly staff ready to help you and your group during your stay.  Also, treat yourself to a delicious meal at The Bistro, serving a variety of breakfast and dinner options, along with evening cocktails.

To enhance your experience, the hotel is equipped with an enchanting courtyard, and a large swimming pool. And do not forget to check out their fitness center to work off some of the calories you will be gaining during this trip.

2 –Where to Eat

Mouthful Thousand Oaks

Description:

No matter what meal or time of day it is, we have some of the best places to eat in Conejo Valley here for you.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Eggs ‘n Things, a beloved local spot renowned for its pancakes, omelets, and, of course, eggs prepared in various styles. From classic favorites to innovative creations, there is something on the menu to satisfy every palate.  We highly recommend you try the other special they are highly known for, their delicious and authentic Swedish pancakes! The tasty combination of butter, fruit, and of course powdered sugar will get your day off to a great start.

Our personal favorite spot to have lunch in the Conejo Valley is Mouthful Eatery in Thousand Oaks.  This Peruvian casual eatery is led by a talented chef Luis Sanchez and his enthusiastic commitment to seasonal ingredients.  Mouthful’s menu features the most vibrant and tasty salads, sandwiches, and bowls that you can customize with your choice of protein and other fabulous ingredients.  And they are all delicious!

For a taste of the local craft beer scene, head over to Tarantula Hill Brewing. This cool brewery boasts a welcoming atmosphere and a diverse selection of handcrafted beers, perfect for enjoying with friends or savoring solo.  They also have a terrific menu, we love their savory tacos, or try one of their tasty wood fired pizzas.

Looking for a more vibrant yet sophisticated place for dinner? Then look no further than Plata Cocina.  With 2 locations in the Conejo Valley this contemporary eatery specializes in Mexican cuisine with a modern flair and is the go-to spot for locals with a craving for Mexican food and margaritas.

From sizzling fajitas to flavorful tacos and zesty ceviche, Plata Cocina takes diners on a culinary journey through the diverse regions of Mexico. Pair your meal with a refreshing margarita or mezcal cocktail for the perfect combination of flavors and spirits.

No foodie adventure is complete without a visit to a beloved local deli. Italia Deli in Agoura Hills is family owned and operated and has been a Conejo Valley staple since it first opened in 1981. This local gem offers a wide selection of imported Italian cheeses, meats, and other gourmet products. But we recommend you grab a delicious panini or Italian sandwich from the deli for a picnic lunch at one of the beautiful outdoor nature spots nearby.

Finally, indulge your sweet tooth at Little Calf Creamery. Yet another Thousand Oaks local favorite, this artisanal ice cream shop uses fresh, local ingredients to create unique and delicious flavors. From classic vanilla to adventurous options like lavender honey or goat cheese caramel, there is a scoop for everyone. And all times of day, hot or cold, you will find a line of locals waiting to enjoy their treat.

Underwood Family Farms

Description:

For your weekend getaway to the Conejo Valley we have some fun family activities to recommend.

First up bounce into some fun and soar to new heights at Sky Zone in Thousand Oaks.  This is a massive Skyzone where you can unleash your inner Ninja Warrior as you go through all the fun and challenging obstacle courses.  Launch yourself off a trampoline and plunge into a sea of soft foam cubes, also discover ziplining, trapeze, swings, and many other super fun activities.

Next we recommend a visit to Underwood Family Farms.  This impressive family friendly venue has great activities, so don’t skip any and enjoy a day of adventure.  Begin by appreciating and getting right up close all the fantastic animals, which include some extremely cute chickens, alpacas, goats, turkeys, ducks, horses and much more.

Underwood Farms also features a great puppet show with singing chickens that we are sure will delight your youngest family members.  Next climb aboard one of the farm tractors, where they will take you on a tour around the farm.  This activity includes – optional of course – opportunities to pick your own seasonal produce!  There is so much to explore here including the tractor slide, playground, market, and photo op booths. And if you didnt want to pick your own produce from the farm you can buy some at the fresh farmers market produce store on the way out.

Before you go be sure to visit another favorite for locals; Marty’s Hobbies! This is the oldest family-owned hobby shop in the Conejo Valley.  For over five decades, Marty’s Hobbies has been a beloved fixture in the local community, bringing joy to hobbyists and enthusiasts alike.

From model trains and remote-controlled cars to plastic model kits and miniature figurines, the shelves are adorned with a captivating array of products that cater to hobbyists of every persuasion.   So, take a step back in time and explore the wonders of Marty’s Hobbies. So before heading back home stop by The Lakes at Thousand Oaks.  Enjoy the picturesque man-made lake surrounded by walking paths and lush greenery.  This is a wonderful place to find organic groceries, fine dining, and even spoil yourself with some spa skin services.

Another favorite venue is Janss Marketplace.  This open-air shopping center features lots of vibrant stores and cafes. Wander through the beautifully landscaped walkways, and browse through a delightful selection of local boutiques, national retailers, and specialty stores. The marketplace offers a diverse selection, from unique clothing and home décor to trendy accessories and gourmet food shops.

One of the most popular annual events is making its grand return in 2024, but this time, you’ll need to wait just a tad longer than usual for the excitement to unfold.

SoCal Museums’ annual free admission extravaganza has typically been a winter affair, usually happening towards the end of January or early February. However, this year, the big day is slated for Saturday, March 23,  at the start of Spring.

What remains the same? An incredible lineup of over thirty participating museums, with more than two dozen scattered across the Greater Los Angeles area. You’ll find a mix of venues that offer year-round free admission (think The Getty, The Getty Villa, The Broad, etc.) and others that typically charge entry fees (such as LACMA, The Autry, Skirball Cultural Center, etc.).

While the free tickets are good for regular admission, keep in mind that they don’t cover special exhibitions, and parking fees are still in play.

Our advice? Expect crowds aplenty, so it’s wise to book early and focus on a specific geographic area where museums are clustered. This approach can save you both on parking costs and transportation headaches.

For instance, you might venture over to Wilshire Blvd along Museum Row, where you can easily stroll between LACMA, La Brea Tar Pits Museum, and the Academy Museum. Another good choice is to stick to DTLA, where you can hop on the Metro to bounce between The GRAMMY Museum, The Broad, and the Japanese American National Museum.

The choice is yours because there is plenty to choose from!

Another favorite venue within the Level 8 Complex is Sinners y Santos.  The architecture and ambience of Sinners y Santos alone it’s worth the visit.  One of the most striking features of this space is the floor to ceiling windows.  These windows offer stunning views of the city skyline, and they also help to blur the lines between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

One detail to take note of is the Angel Statue.  This figure is a 12-foot-tall replica of the Angel of Independence statue that is located in Mexico City.  Get ready for amazing Instagram pictures!  Sinners y Santos also has a number of smaller spaces including a private dining room, game room, and a balcony that can be used for private events.
