This Santa Clarita neighborhood haunt proves you don’t need a studio budget to create an impressive Halloween attraction. Its detailed scenery, animatronics, and theatrical effects have made it a favorite among local horror fans.

The attraction changes its theme, giving returning visitors something new to discover. The current production, Season of the Witch, trades last season’s music-inspired storyline for a fresh round of scares. Admission has traditionally been free, with donations welcomed.

One of LA’s most impressive pumpkin events returns to Descanso Gardens this October. Carved runs nightly from October 2 through November 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Thousands of hand-carved pumpkins, illuminated displays, and fall installations transform the gardens after dark. The experience takes visitors through beautiful sections of Descanso Gardens filled with glowing pumpkins and seasonal displays.

Another favorite is Night of the Jack at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas. The grounds open at 5:30 p.m., with timed trail entrances beginning at 6:00 p.m. Food trucks, themed cocktails, specialty drinks, and other activities are also available before and after the walk. Comfortable shoes are a must since the main attraction is a mile-long trail.

For even more pumpkins, head to Magic of the Jack O’Lanterns at South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes. The family-friendly event runs on select nights from September 18 through November 1.

More than 10,000 hand-carved jack-o’-lanterns illuminate a mile-long walking trail. This year’s displays include a whimsical circus, an under-the-sea experience, a Día de los Muertos tribute, towering inflatables, interactive activities, and a synchronized pumpkin light show every 30 minutes.

Guests can also add 3D Jack O’Lantern glasses or a s’mores package to their visit, while the Fun Zone features a giant pumpkin-shaped bounce pad and oversized slides.

The Most Fun and Free Halloween Carnivals in LA

Halloween celebrations take over communities across Los Angeles and Orange County in October, and some of the best events are completely free.

One of the biggest is the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, returning Saturday, October 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

More than 100,000 costumed revelers are expected to fill Santa Monica Boulevard for this famous street celebration. Boo at the L.A. Zoo returns for two weekends: October 24 and 25 and October 31 and November 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For an only-in-LA Labor Day evening, head to Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The popular outdoor movie series presents Josie and the Pussycats on September 5th and The Sandlot on September 6th. Yes, we love lobster! The Original Lobster Festival returns to Fountain Valley Sports Park from September 11th to 13th. Fresh Maine lobsters are flown in daily and steamed onsite in the festival’s enormous lobster cooker.

Lobster may be the star, but there is plenty more to enjoy. The festival includes an international food court, live music, dancing, karaoke, carnival rides and games, magic shows and activities for kids. There are also wine, tequila and whiskey tastings for adults.

Next, visit Taste of Arcadia, returning to Santa Anita Park on September 19th. This popular Arcadia Chamber of Commerce event brings together restaurants and food vendors from Arcadia and throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

Description:

Start with The Other Art Fair, returning to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica from September 24th to 27th. Presented by Saatchi Art, the fair showcases 160 independent artists and thousands of original artworks, including paintings, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Visitors can meet artists directly while enjoying immersive installations, performances and DJs.

Also new this year is the first Los Angeles Korean Film Festival, taking place September 24th to 26th at the Harmony Gold Preview House and Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles.

The inaugural festival celebrates contemporary Korean cinema through screenings and special programs. Its theme, New Waves, New Voices, focuses on fresh perspectives and emerging voices in Korean filmmaking. All screenings and programs are free and open to the public.

Later in the month, enjoy a weekend of music by the ocean at the Ohana Festival, returning to Doheny State Beach in Dana Point from September 25th to 27th.

The concert celebrates the legendary composer behind some of Hollywood’s most recognizable movie scores, with selections from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jaws, Jurassic Park and more. The music is accompanied by specially edited film scenes and clips shown on the Bowl’s big screens.

The game floor captures that perfect balance of childhood memories and grown-up fun.

At the bar, you’ll find fun and creative game themed drinks, with Galaga being one of our personal favorites.  On weekends, Mission Control features DJ nights, turning the venue from a casual gaming hangout into a lively party spot. 

Being housed inside McFadden Public Market makes the experience even better. Guests can sip their arcade-themed cocktails at Mission Control and then head downstairs to enjoy dinner from one of the food hall’s diverse restaurants.

And for those wanting to keep the night going, The Twisted Tiki, a hidden Hawaiian speakeasy inside the market, offers a tropical escape with rum-forward drinks and island décor.
