Winter Dishes in LA

Winter in Los Angeles may not bring snow-covered streets, but it absolutely brings a shift in the way the city eats. As the temperatures drop (by our standards) and evenings turn crisp, Angelenos gravitate toward dishes that are warm, and flavorful.

Across the city, kitchens come alive with simmering broths, bubbling stews, freshly baked treats, and cozy classics that turn even the chilliest night into something memorable.

In this guide, we’re exploring the best winter dishes Los Angeles has to offer, from steaming bowls of noodles and comforting hot pots to decadent desserts with warm sauces on top.

Whether you’re craving something bold and spicy, creamy and nostalgic, or sweet and seasonal, LA has a place ready to welcome you in.

Consider this your delicious roadmap to the flavors that define winter in the city, warm, vibrant, and unmistakably LA.

1 –The Best Winter Soups in LA

Description:

Winter in LA means we get to eat delicious warm soups.  From cozy neighborhood cocinas to strip-mall gems, locals line up for steaming bowls of amazing flavors.

Some of the most popular include tomato-bright Mexican sopa de fideo, slow-simmered caldo de res, creamy Colombian ajiaco, and deeply fragrant Vietnamese pho.

These aren’t just comfort foods; they’re the bowls Angelenos rave about in their five-star reviews, the spots they send friends to when they say, “I just need something warm and amazing tonight.”

Mexican and Salvadoran classics are rich, brothy, and loaded with vegetables and tender meat. Descanso Restaurant in Los Angeles is a standout spot where regulars rave about its warm, comforting take on traditional favorites like Sopa de Fideo.

Head a little further afield and the winter soup tour keeps getting better. At La Fonda Antioqueña, a long-running Colombian favorite, ajiaco arrives in deep bowls filled with tender chicken, three kinds of potatoes, corn on the cob, and the distinct herbal note of guascas, this is a very popular dish in Bogotá, and local Colombian diners and food writers alike describe as pure comfort on a chilly day.

Then there’s Vietnamese soup season, which in L.A. basically lasts all year but feels especially right in winter. We recommend Koreatown’s Ktown Pho, because it has earned a devoted following and constant media praise for its aromatic, slow-simmered broth and lineup of pho bowls, from wagyu to oxtail.

Another great place for Pho is San Gabriel landmark Golden Deli.  This place is made legendary for its steaming phở and crispy egg rolls, and it keeps drawing lines decades after opening. In a sea of amazing Vietnamese restaurants many consider this one the best of the best in Southern California.

2 – The Best Korean Bowls

Description:

Nothing warms the soul quite like a Korean bowl, steaming, vibrant, and layered with flavor. This season, treat yourself to the comfort and creativity of LA’s best spots for Korean bowls and soups, each offering its own spin on tradition.

Start your winter food journey at Gogobop, a modern option with locations in Koreatown and Westwood. Known for its fully customizable bowls, Gogobop lets you build your perfect combination of rice, proteins, vegetables, and sauces, making each bowl both delicious and uniquely yours.

Next is BCD Tofu House. With locations all across Los Angeles, both locals and visitors can choose the most convenient spot and expect the same great quality. The Wilshire Blvd location even opens as early as 7:30 AM. BCD is beloved for its hearty, delicious soups and is also home to one of the most satisfying bibimbap bowls in town.

For those craving something even heartier, Sun Nong Dan offers some of the most intensely flavorful Korean soups in the city, with locations in Koreatown, Rowland Heights, and San Gabriel. Their extensive selection of bubbling stews and rich broths makes it a must-try destination for anyone seeking comfort food with unforgettable depth.

3 – The Best Roasts in LA

Description:

There’s something undeniably comforting about a perfectly slow-cooked roast, especially when Los Angeles cools down and we all start craving something warm, rich, and deeply satisfying.

One of the city’s most beloved spots for this is The Jar, a sophisticated, modern chophouse with a beautifully cozy atmosphere. Their pot roast has almost a cult following, and for good reason.

It arrives beautifully presented, meltingly tender, and infused with layers of flavor that feel familiar yet elevated. This dish will make you want to linger at the table just a little longer.

For an old-school favorite with charm to spare, Tam O’ Shanter is a must-visit. This historic Los Angeles landmark delivers incredible old-world ambiance with cozy fireplaces, warm lighting, and a touch of Scottish flair.

Their signature dish, Toad in the Hole, features braised beef and hearty vegetables baked into a savory batter, and it’s every bit as satisfying as it sounds.

Tam O’ Shanter has earned national attention, appearing on shows like The Originals with Emeril and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and the praise is well-deserved. People come for the history but stay for the unforgettable roast dishes.

And if Sundays are your “comfort food day,” then The Cat & Fiddle Restaurant & Pub should be at the top of your list. Their classic Sunday roast is everything you expect from a true British pub: roasted potatoes, sautéed greens, roasted carrots, a perfect Yorkshire pudding, and rich gravy tying it all together.

It’s hearty, flavorful, and feels like a tradition even if it’s your first time trying it. Whether you’re looking for a refined roast, a historic dining experience, or a cozy pub classic, LA has a roast for every mood, and every appetite.

4 – Best Hot Pot in LA

Description:

If it is winter then it’s hot pot season in LA! Restaurants fill with tables gathered around bubbling broths, thinly sliced meats, and overflowing trays of vegetables and noodles. It’s one of winter’s most social dishes, interactive, warming, and endlessly customizable, making it a favorite tradition for Angelenos looking for something both comforting and fun.

One of the most celebrated destinations is Haidilao Hot Pot in Santa Monica, where the menu spans silky tomato broths, numbing Sichuan heat, and an impressive sauce bar that regulars swear is the best in town. The experience is polished, welcoming, and perfect for groups who want a lively night out.

For a more refined take, Mo-Mo Paradise in Torrance delivers exceptional Japanese shabu shabu in a sleek setting. The ingredients are pristine, the broths are clean and balanced, and the overall experience feels effortlessly elevated.

If bold, punchy flavors are on your winter list, Chong Qing Yao Mei Hot Pot in Old Pasadena delivers Sichuan-style hot pot at its most vibrant. This popular, trend-forward spot is known for its intensely flavorful, spicy, and numbing mala broths, balanced by milder options for those who prefer depth over heat.

Guests can choose from an extensive selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles, then customize everything further at the self-serve sauce bar.

The atmosphere is lively and colorful, portions are generous, and the menu even includes street-style grilled skewers and vegan-friendly choices, making it an ideal destination for groups looking for a fun, highly personalized hot-pot experience.

Over in Little Tokyo, Shabu Shabu House stands as one of LA’s most iconic Japanese shabu shabu restaurants, cherished for decades by locals and visitors alike. Here, guests select their favorite cuts of premium meats, crisp vegetables, and house-made broths to create their own delicious pot, cooking each bite to their preferred doneness.

The style is simple and traditional, yet incredibly satisfying, an experience that feels both timeless and uniquely Angeleno as you swirl fresh ingredients through steaming broth in the heart of one of LA’s most historic neighborhoods.

5 –  The Best Winter Desserts

Description:

LA has plenty of deserts and sweet drinks during the winter season! In Santa Monica, Churros Calientes is a must for anyone who loves classic, Madrid-style churros made fresh to order. Their crispy, golden churros arrive perfectly warm with just the right amount of sweetness, ready to be dipped into rich chocolate caliente.

This spot is known for using organic ingredients, giving their desserts a quality and freshness you can taste in every bite. It’s the kind of simple pleasure that instantly becomes a winter favorite—especially on a cool coastal night.

Bread pudding, yes! Head to The Morrison in Los Feliz. Known for serving one of the best bread puddings in the city, this neighborhood favorite elevates the classic dessert with its signature butterscotch sauce and a choice of indulgent ice creams, Vanilla Bean, Jameson, Rocky Road, or Horchata.

The dish arrives warm, rich, and irresistibly comforting, the kind of dessert that instantly becomes a winter tradition. The Morrison’s inviting atmosphere makes it even more enjoyable; it’s a family-friendly spot where everyone feels welcome, and yes, it’s even dog-friendly, adding to its cozy, community-driven appeal.

For those who love pastries, cakes, and seasonal delights, Paris Baguette is a winter essential. With multiple locations throughout LA, this bakery café offers a vibrant menu of beautifully crafted treats, from delicate cream-filled pastries to standout seasonal cakes adorned with festive designs perfect for Instagram.

Their creative presentation and ever-changing seasonal offerings bring a touch of magic to the colder months, while their drink menu, featuring lattes, specialty coffees, and warming seasonal sips, makes each visit feel like a little winter escape.

Los Angeles offers a list of incredibly diverse nighttime experiences reserved just for the grown-ups.  In this post we are going to spotlight events and venues where freedom, connection, and sophistication come together for the 21+ crowd.

Yes we share lots of kid and family friendly activities for you to do in LA but this time its adults only.  Here is a curated guide to five unforgettable adult-only adventures after dark in Los Angeles.

1 – Nights Full of Mystery and Excitement

Black Rabbit Rose LA

Description:

If you’re craving an evening filled with intrigue, sleight of hand, and theatrical spectacle, LA’s magical side delivers like no other. Black Rabbit Rose,  in Hollywood, is from the outside an unassuming building but inside is a speakeasy that combines craft cocktails, vaudeville-inspired magic shows, and a sultry vintage atmosphere.

Guests enter through a discreet alleyway and are transported to a 1940s-style club where illusionists and performers blend mysticism with live jazz. It’s a hotspot for date nights or small groups looking to be wowed while sipping cocktails named after card suits and vintage stars.

Another must-visit is The Magic Castle, an exclusive, members-only venue perched above Hollywood. Though membership is typically reserved for magicians, you can gain access by knowing a member or booking a hotel package.

We do offer a few tips on how to get in here.

Once inside, it’s an experience unlike any other. Hidden passageways, elegant dinner service, and intimate performances by the world’s top magicians create an air of enchantment. It’s not just a venue—it’s an immersive experience that demands cocktail attire and rewards curiosity. Be prepared for your perception of reality to be questioned.

For those who love a good whodunit, Murder Mystery Dinner Shows across LA provide a more interactive flavor of nocturnal adventure. These experiences usually pair a multi-course meal with a storyline in which audience members become suspects, sleuths, or victims.

Whether you opt for a 1920s gangster theme or a Hollywood homicide, the drama unfolds around you, blending dining with immersive theater. It’s a perfect pick for groups of friends or a unique date night where you can eat, laugh, and interrogate your way through the evening.

2 – Night Hikes

San Diego Zoo Roar and Snore

Description:

The natural beauty of LA doesn’t vanish when the sun goes down—it simply changes form. Night hikes provide a rare and exhilarating way to explore the city’s landscapes under the stars, with an added thrill of the unknown.

The Los Angeles County Arboretum offers seasonal Adult Night Hikes that are both peaceful and informative. These guided hikes lead small groups through botanical gardens where moonlight filters through canopies and nocturnal creatures stir. It’s a chance to slow down and connect with nature in a way that’s impossible during daylight hours.

For a slightly more urban adventure, Griffith Park Night Hikes are a staple for active Angelenos. Led by hiking clubs or local guides, these treks offer jaw-dropping views of the city skyline twinkling below.

The terrain ranges from gentle to moderately challenging, and along the way, hikers may pass by the old zoo, hidden trails, and even the haunted remnants of abandoned sites. With the Griffith Observatory glowing in the distance, it feels like walking through an LA postcard with a dose of local lore.

For a wilder twist, consider Roar and Snore, at the San Diego Safari Park (worth the drive). Although not in the heart of LA, these overnight experiences are catered to adults on select nights.

Participants get to sleep in luxurious tents among exotic animals, enjoy night-time safaris, and share stories over campfires. It’s an elevated camping experience—with the roar of lions instead of freeway noise in the background—that brings adventure-seekers closer to nature.

3 – Theme Bars

Holey Moley LA

Description:

Los Angeles’ bar scene is anything but basic, and for those seeking something more than just a drink, the city’s theme bars deliver wild, whimsical, and occasionally weird experiences.

Start with Holey Moley Mini Golf Club in Santa Monica, a vibrant bar-meets-mini-golf-course. Its new in 2025 (with another location coming to Irvine Spectrum Center soon).

After 8:00 p.m., this Putt Putt playground transforms into a 21+ venue, complete with glow-in-the-dark holes, cocktail service on the course, and DJ-curated playlists. It’s nostalgic, a little ridiculous, and a whole lot of fun—perfect for group hangs or quirky date nights.

Next up is the classic Beetle House LA, an homage to all things Tim Burton. This dark, artfully curated bar and restaurant in Hollywood brings the eerie, eccentric world of Burton’s films to life. Think walls dripping with references to Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and of course, Beetlejuice

Performers in costume, themed cocktails (like “This is Halloween” or “Corpse Bride Martini”), and a black-and-white striped ambiance make this an Instagram-worthy and delightfully creepy experience.

Then there’s Tiki No, a North Hollywood gem serving Polynesian-inspired drinks in a kitschy island setting. Once you step inside, you’re greeted by bamboo decor, flaming torches, and retro surf vibes. Their potent mai tais and scorpion bowls are beloved by locals, and the bar often features live music or karaoke nights.

Tiki No is low-key yet spirited, offering a tropical escape without ever leaving LA. It’s the perfect place to unwind and imagine you’re far, far away—even if it’s just for a couple of hours.

4 – Night Markets

626 Night Market

Description:

Late-night cravings? LA’s night markets take over Summer nights with a sensory overload in the best way possible—blending culture, food, shopping, and music into irresistible after-dark experiences.

The 626 Night Market, originally founded in the San Gabriel Valley, has become a Southern California icon. It runs on select weekends and features over 250 food, merchandise, and art vendors. From rainbow grilled cheese to boba cocktails, this 21+ friendly market brings global flavors and nightlife together in one deliciously chaotic place.

Not far away is Night + Market Song, located on Sunset Boulevard. Though technically a restaurant, its electric atmosphere and menu inspired by Northern Thai street food make it feel like a slice of a bustling Bangkok market.

Dishes like spicy larb and crispy rice salad pair perfectly with their inventive cocktails, and the funky pink-and-neon decor sets a festive tone. It’s a go-to spot for food lovers looking to spice up their night.

For something more boutique, the Melrose Friday Night Market blends artisan vibes with chill ambiance. Held weekly, this outdoor gathering features handmade goods, indie musicians, and rotating gourmet food trucks.

While it’s family-friendly by day, the evening hours shift toward a trendier, adult crowd. It’s a great place to find a new local designer, enjoy street tacos, and vibe to lo-fi beats under the stars. Plus, it’s dog-friendly—so you can bring your furry date along, too.

5 – Aquarium of the Pacific – Late Nights Adults Only

Aquarium of the pacific

Description:

Think aquariums are only for field trips and families? Think again. The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach hosts occasional Late Nights for Adults, transforming the space into an underwater wonderland with cocktails, music, and exclusive access to exhibits.

These 18+ events allow visitors to roam the glowing jellyfish rooms, shark lagoons, and tropical reef tanks without kids in tow—creating a serene and mesmerizing environment. Some nights even feature silent discos, guest lectures, or themed costume parties.

The blend of marine life and mood lighting offers a uniquely romantic or meditative experience. You might find yourself sipping wine while watching a sea turtle glide overhead, or taking a slow stroll through the tunnel of shimmering fish.

It’s perfect for couples looking for a memorable date night or solo explorers seeking a new angle on nightlife. With capacity limits and a more mature vibe, it never feels overly crowded or rushed.

Best of all, the Aquarium’s adult nights often incorporate sustainability themes and local community elements. From eco-friendly vendors to educational panels on ocean conservation, these events are fun and meaningful.

LA’s night scene is as layered and diverse as the city itself. So when the sun goes down, don’t call it a night—make it an experience.

Located in the heart of Downtown LA’s Broadway Historic District, it’s a dreamy destination for stepping out of modern life and into a roaring good time.

The Queen Mary Observation Bar – Long Beach

Description:

Docked in Long Beach, the Queen Mary isn’t just a historic ocean liner—it’s a floating piece of 1920s luxury. The ship was commissioned in 1930 and still retains the Art Deco elegance and grandeur of that era.

One of the most beautiful spots aboard the magnificent vessel is the Observation Bar, a polished cocktail lounge with sweeping views of the harbor and stunning period architecture.

Housed in a beautiful Victorian mansion and operating as an exclusive members-only club, this private venue is known for its vintage allure, strict dress code, and mysterious, old-world vibe.
